Phishing

Phishing is when attackers trick you into giving up passwords or data via fake links or sites.

In plain English

When someone tries to fool you with a fake email or link so you hand over your password or personal info—like a fake “Your account is locked” message that sends you to a copycat login page.

Phishing is a type of social engineering where attackers send links or messages that look legitimate (e.g. from a bank or service) to steal passwords, payment details, or personal data. Clicking a phishing link can take you to a fake login page or trigger malware.

Short URLs and redirects are often used to hide the real destination. Our link checker follows redirects and checks the final URL against Google Safe Browsing so you can see where a link really goes and whether it's reported as dangerous before you click.

Examples & Usage

Common Tactics

"Urgent account alerts ('Your account will be suspended'), fake shared documents, or 'Verify your identity' requests from services you use."

How to spot it

"Look for misspelled domains (e.g., paypa1.com instead of paypal.com), mismatched links (the text says one thing, the URL says another), or unusual sense of urgency."
